CHRF Stories

CHRF works hard every year in order to provide valuable pharmaceuticals to our medical distribution partners and within our networks of clinics and hospitals around the world. Over the past years, the CHRF Board Of Directors has decided to focus on providing donations to our partners in Honduras in order to maximize our impact and help provide “in kind” support (our medicines) where it is so desperately n...

Rwanda has one the highest percentages of orphans in the world. As dramatized in the film Hotel Rwanda, the 1994 genocide resulted in mass killings of more than a million people and displacement of another three million. Children were victimized on a scale not seen since the Holocaust. Many saw their family members tortured and murdered. Half a million girls were systematically raped. The violence continued to flare up in the years th...

Dutch traders landed at the southern tip of modern day South Africa in 1652 and established a stopover point on the spice route between the Netherlands and the Far East, founding the city of Cape Town. After the British seized the Cape of Good Hope area in 1806, many of the Dutch settlers (the Boers) trekked north to found their own republics. The discovery of diamonds (1867) and gold (1886) spurred wealth and immigration and i...

Civil war and government mismanagement destroyed much of Liberia's economy, especially the infrastructure in and around the capital, Monrovia. Many businesses fled the country, taking capital and expertise with them, but with the conclusion of fighting and the installation of a democratically-elected government in 2006, several have returned. Liberia has the distinction of having the highest ratio of direct foreign investment to GDP in the...

In the past CHRF has provided valuable medical support to our partners in Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone is an extremely poor nation with tremendous inequality in income distribution. While it possesses substantial mineral, agricultural, and fishery resources, its physical and social infrastructure is not well developed, and serious social disorders continue to hamper economic development. Nearly half of the working-age population engages in subsi...

Stories of Juárez

Diana was like most 7 year-old girls leading a happy life with her parents and friends. Known by all to be a young and cheerful spirit, always wearing a smile and spreading joy to all whom she touched. This was truly rare as Diana lives in Juarez, Mexico, one of the most dangerous cities in the world, a city terrorized and rampantly imploding with drug cartel and gang murders, their violence withh...

Report From CHRF Emergency Relief Team Leader - On The Ground in the Somali Region:

Note: For Safety Reasons the dates and locations have been removed from our Team Leaders Report but the News remains the same.

Whenever American or English speaking volunteers would visit the orphanage supported by Children’s Hunger Relief Fund in Juarez, the children could be seen writing down phrases that they heard the volunteers use so that they could efficiently memorize them. Until those visits, the kids had been burning with the desire to learn English with no proper system in place to support them.

Today however, through the generosity of ...

Meet Hannington Kubomwi, a smart and kind 12-year-old-boy, living in Uganda. Hannington now lives a relatively normal life for a child in Uganda. He lives with his adopted family in a safe home and receives at least one meal a day. But his life wasn’t always this way…

Hannington’s parents were both kidnapped by rebels associated with the LRA when he was just one year old. They were soon after found murde...

For Years, CHRF has been proud to sponsor different children who have been orphaned in the impoverished country of Transnistria, adjacent to Moldova in Eastern Europe. Thanks to our CHRF Donors we are able to help and support young girls in finding a new home and family where they will find food, shelter and most important of all, love.

Why this project? In a country where an estimated 60% of female orphans will grow ...

CHRF is committed to helping impoverished and neglected children and families right here in the USA. In the heart of the wealthiest nation in the world, in one of the wealthiest communities, children are still abused, neglected and abandoned. Unlike the undeveloped “third” world where war, disease and famine drive circumstances against children, in America its drug and substance abuse. To a child it’s all the same. A child vi...

CHRF in Nicaragua: Feeding Children, Restoring Hope

With the generous help and compassion of our special donors, Children’s Hunger Relief Fund has had the great fortune to help thousands of children from Nicaragua over our twenty plus years of bringing Miracles to the children and hope to the hopeless.

The morning train to Lusaka was bursting with sound and color.  People were crammed four across on benches normally meant for two.  Boxes and bags were everywhere, as well as several caged chickens who were squawking out their accompaniment to the loud music blaring from the tinny speakers.  Amazing Grace was playing.

How appropriate, the grandmother thought – except perhaps for the chickens, ...

United Nations News: Afghanistan faces enormous recovery needs after three decades of war, civil unrest and recurring natural disasters. Despite recent progress, millions of Afghans still live in severe poverty with a crumbling infrastructure and a landscape that is suffering from environmental damage. This rugged, landlocked country remains one of the poorest in the world, with more than hal...

For years Children’s Hunger Relief Fund has been privileged to support and work with our partners in Burkina Faso, a land-locked country in Western Africa. The country has the world’s ninth highest infant mortality rate, worse then even war torn countries like Ethiopia or Southern Sudan and also has one of the worst life-expectancy ages.

Over the past ...

CHRF has worked with our partners to help families and many hungry children in the surrounding communities of Manilla, feeding children for as little as 10 cents a meal. While we help feed these children, our partners have reached out to the young children in the community and even provided them with an education! Enabling the next generation to move out of such drastic poverty. Without the great efforts of o...

CHRF is once again proud to report on our projects in the countries around the world that need it most. In Cambodia, where one out of every three children under the age of five is malnourished and where only 28% of children make it to secondary school, CHRF has had the opportunity to once again bridge the gap between the many gene...

As the world media and hundreds of relief efforts from around the globe have been focused on the tragic earthquake that has taken thousands of lives in Nepal, another tragedy has been developing with little to no spotlight or media attention. According to the United Nations Relief Agency, more than 50,000 citizens of Burundi have been forced to flee from dangerous violence near their homes. Now, these 50,000 innocent people are running and des...

Genocide in South Sudan: How We Are Helping Together

Imagine a large town with a population of 150,000 one day bustling with busy street markets, churches, schools and despite their poverty, happy people. But overnight evil brews and an endless tribal war consumes the innocent town. The very next day the air is horribly thick with the smell of death and the smoke from burning homes and buildings. Thousands have been t...

In Costa Rica CHRF supports a feeding program to help feed children off of the streets. Also one of our Board Members is leading the effort in creating self sufficient programs and projects that hope to lead to creating many more jobs for the local community.

When Others Pull Out, We Dig In!
CHRF and our partners make a commitment to an area for the long haul. In hot spots like South Sudan and Afghanistan, this often means digging in when other aid organizations are pulling out.

Our loyalty builds trust and support from the people we serve, who don't have the option of leaving when the bombs start falling. This makes us much more effective over the long term.
